Pure Client Approach

ChatInbox operates as a pure client application with these characteristics:

  • All of your emails, data, identity, and credentials stay on your own devices
  • Personal data, identity, and credentials are never collected, stored, or transmitted to company servers
  • Data only leaves your device when you explicitly use your email provider's standard APIs
  • Only the user accesses their own data
  • The app does not track, analyze, or monetize communications

iCloud Sync

Optional app settings like tags, groups, and to-do items may synchronize through Apple iCloud. These items remain in the user's personal iCloud account, inaccessible to the company.

Core Commitments

The company commits to:

  • Collecting data only with legal basis
  • Maintaining transparency about data usage
  • Refraining from selling data
  • Requesting only necessary information
  • Securely disposing of data after retention periods
  • Respecting privacy rights through prompt, transparent responses
  • Maintaining staff training on privacy obligations
  • Implementing technological and organizational security measures
  • Requiring data processors to maintain appropriate security
  • Avoiding automated decisions affecting user rights
  • Obtaining consent before transferring data internationally

Google User Data

  • Permission requests come from ChatInbox App
  • Access credentials remain confidential
  • Users can revoke access through Gmail security settings
  • Data is used solely to enable ChatInbox features with Gmail
  • No use for advertising, surveillance, or third-party distribution
  • Limited human access except for security purposes with consent

Microsoft User Data

Similar protections apply for Microsoft/Outlook accounts:

  • Confidential credential handling
  • Revocation available through Microsoft account settings
  • Data used exclusively for ChatInbox functionality
  • No advertising or third-party distribution
  • Restricted human access except for security with consent

IMAP User Data

For IMAP-connected accounts:

  • Credentials stored with industry-standard encryption
  • Access limited to minimum required functionality
  • Users can revoke access by deleting accounts
  • Data used solely for email client features
  • No advertising, third-party sharing, or surveillance use
  • Restricted human access except for security purposes

Children's Privacy

ChatInbox is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete such information.

Data Retention

Since ChatInbox operates as a pure client application, all email data and app data are stored locally on your device. We do not retain any user data on our servers. Data persists on your device until you delete the app or remove your accounts. iCloud-synced settings (tags, groups, to-dos) remain in your personal iCloud account and follow Apple's iCloud data retention policies.

Third-Party Services

ChatInbox interacts with the following third-party services solely to provide email functionality:

  • Email providers (Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo, AOL, Zoho, iCloud, IMAP) — to send, receive, and manage your email via their standard APIs and protocols
  • Apple iCloud — optional sync of app settings (tags, groups, to-dos) across your devices
  • Apple Push Notification Service — to deliver new email notifications

We do not integrate any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking services.

Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction (including under GDPR and CCPA), you may have the following rights:

  • Access — request confirmation of what data we process (which is none on our servers)
  • Deletion — delete all local data by removing your accounts or uninstalling the app
  • Portability — your email data remains with your email provider and is always accessible
  • Opt-out — revoke email provider access at any time through your provider's security settings
  • Non-discrimination — we will not treat you differently for exercising your privacy rights

Cookies & Analytics

ChatInbox does not use cookies, web beacons, or any analytics or tracking technologies. We do not collect usage data, crash reports, or behavioral analytics. The app contains no telemetry of any kind.

Google API Services Limited Use Disclosure

ChatInbox's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

  • We only use Google user data to provide and improve email functionality within ChatInbox
  • We do not transfer Google user data to third parties except as necessary to provide the service, comply with law, or with explicit user consent
  • We do not use Google user data for advertising purposes
  • Human access to Google user data is limited to security purposes, compliance with law, or with the user's explicit consent

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting the updated policy on this page with a revised "Last updated" date. Your continued use of ChatInbox after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
